We Are The Body of Christ

Some thoughts for reflection today from St. Teresa of Avila:

Christ has
No body now on earth but yours;
No hands but yours;
No feet but yours;
Yours are the eyes
Through which is to look out
Christ’s compassion to the world;
Yours are the feet
With which he is to go about
Doing good;
Yours are the hands
With which he is to bless now.

    Kind of blows the notion “It’s not my job. We have paid evangelists and missionaries for that.”

    Good words.

    I have an aunt in Alabama who detests the song in our older hymnals that proclaimed this sentiment. She thinks the words limit the power of Christ to what we’re willing to do. From that perspective, there would be no use in praying for God has limited himself to what we’ll do.
    But I try to get her to see the NT perspective that he has chosen (part of the mystery) to pour out his power in broken vessels.
    But she refuses to see it that way because … well, our family comes from very stubborn stock.
    But I agree with Sandra’s comment.

    Why is it that profound words sound even more true when we use the right words to express them?

    By the way, I keep a little dab of pine tar underneath the pulpit when I preach. It helps me to get a grip.

    Very interesting perspective. Highlights the enormous resposibility we have to reflect Christ but then the stones as Jesus says can praise him. And donkeys have been known to be more perceptive than humans in some instances.

    I love the words to “We Are the Body of Christ” because of the thoughts and intents of being bound together with others of like precious faith in love. This is a very precious part of the Christian experience to me - that of being part of God’s family. I sometimes go into your website just to hear part of the song!

    Several times lately, I have been praying about a certain situation or individual and I am struck with the thought that I am praying for God to help (and He obviously has all the power to do that), but that He may turn around and question what I intend to do to help!
