Million Dollar Baby

Beth and I viewed the film Million Dollar Baby last night. I realize it has been out a while and that it won 4 Academy Awards. We see very few films in the theater preferring to wait until they are released on DVD.

I enjoyed the movie. I thought the interaction between Eddie (Morgan Freeman) and Frankie (Clint Eastwood) was excellent. I thought Maggie (Hilary Swank) played an excellent role. She was in my opinion quite convincing. I found myself drawn into the characters appreciative of the redemptive relationships. I was saddened by the result and the plot twists which befell Maggie after all her struggles to rise above her social position.

The dilemma at the end was well portrayed. Frankie’s struggle was real and quite painful. Did you think “What would I have done?”

If anybody out there saw this film, I would be interested to hear your thoughts and opinions.

We rented that DVD last Thursday (the day we arrived home from our cross-country drive) intending to watch it and never took it out of the case. Your blog makes me want to rent it again … I’ll let you know what I thought of it.
Of course, it’s probably better on a projection system with surround sound in a cool, dark basement, projected the size of the end wall. But I’ll settle for my 20″ bedroom set.

R-dawg. I have not yet seen it, although it is numero uno (as we say in Spainglish) on my list. I know what it deals with. For more cinematic takes on the subject, see also _The Sea Inside_, a.k.a. _Mar Adentro_ by Alejandro Amenabar. It won the Oscar in 2004 for Best Foreign Picture.

Actually, don’t rent it. I will bring it over on Saturday. We can watch it after I beat you silly in ping pong and then eat all your snacks.

My religion will not allow me to watch a movie about a lottery winner. As you can tell I haven’t seen the movie yet. Since the Lord granted my wife her ‚Äúpoultry prayer‚Äù yesterday I think she deserves dinner out on Saturday night and then a trip back to our humble abode to check out this award winning movie on our 32 inch family room set.

I will try and see it. Did someone say something about ping pong?
