I hereby decree today as NATIONAL PRAY FOR STEVE DAY!

Steve, we feel your pain. We feel your sorrow. We understand your anger.

Greg has rooted for the Braves - he understands your woe.

Cecil has rooted for the Marlins - he is no stranger to your angst.

Brady has rooted for the Swiss curling team - i’m not sure what “a man” like that would feel.

I have rooted for the Reds - I know what it’s like to be left standing in Schott.

We’re here for you buddy — let it all out — the pain, the hurt, the tears.

Just remember . . .

Psalm 1:5-6 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.

And all will be well.

I was driving in this morning wondering what it would be like if our “on the job” mistakes were the subject of the national media. What if talk shows, journalists, newscasts and other pundits replayed your every decision?

I’ll keep an eye on Steve’s blog today and let the rest of you know if it is safe to visit.

Well said Randy. We love Steve (fellow math brother) and we do feel his pain. May he not allow these circumstances to “trap” (sorry Steve, I did it again) him into a “blue” state of mind.

I don’t really have an opinion here, except to sympathize with another’s pain. But after last night’s National League game, all I can say is my blood runs red, and GO CARDINALS!

Well put. BTW, the Swiss National Football team (soccer) tied their match in Ireland last night and will have to play off against another European team to qualify for the World Cup in Germany next year.

I don’t know how the Swiss Curling team is doing. zmnjw

I felt like the Angels were robbed until I watched the ESPN analysis of the call. They showed how the ump’s mechanics never wavered throughout the game. It was unfortunate … but I think the Angels’ should have been a bit more on top of the play.
Great post, though, Randy. It’s bad enough having just the church family walk me back through some bone-headed something I said or did … I certainly don’t need it to go public!

One aspect of the Angels “behavior” is in the old act of selling a call. In this case, the Angels were assured the third strike had been called and running off the field was their act (sub-consciously or not) of selling the call to the Pale Sox if not the Ump as well.

    Words were said.

    Things were thrown.

I’m still looking for my cap.

I think it’s best for all concerned if I don’t talk about it for a while.

Thanks to all for their prayers. For me. For my team. For the pitiful, unbelievably awful, pathetic umpire behind the plate who DID throw up his right arm and pump that stupid fist in what, for the past 100 years, has been universally recognized as an out call and who should at least at some point own up to the fact that he cost the Angels the game and changed the face of the entire series and maybe he would be better off selling shoes at the local mall Foot Locker.

Yes, I think I’d better not talk about it yet.

Brave of you to even bring it up, Randy. I won’t call him, I’ll avoid him, I won’t email.

I have grown up with him and learned that it’s not safe until he stops throwing things and hitting his head on the brick fireplace. Really, he used to do that when he was mad.

I’ll see him Sunday morning and hope his little noggin’ isn’t too bruised.

I think I spoke way too soon about the ESPN analysis. I should have waited a while … maybe until after Christmas or New Years! Hopefully this will only be a bleep in the overall outcome. We’re certainly pulling for our Angels here in Long Beach!

I, myself, have just watched the replay and there is no question the man in blue rang him up.

The arm slide to the right signaled strike three, the fist pump signaled you are out.

In the sixth inning molina was the recipient / victim of a dropped third strike. The arm slide to the right signaled strike three and when molina was tagged by the catcher the fist pump signaled you are out.

At least two things amaze me about this. First, even with the runner advancing to first base the easier call was to say “no I rang you up you are out.” Second, that not one of the other umpires had the courage to say “we say you fist pump ringing the guy up.”

Not to worry, I’ve received a word from the Lord via my word verification.

The word is NLCSCAB which literally translated means: the California Angels will Be the opponent of the winner of the NLCS.

This proves, conclusively, that the Angels will win the ALCS and advance to the World Series.

Remember, you heard it here first . . . a message from the Lord.

Okay, as all of you know, I am no expert on baseball. I don’t even own a baseball puck, but the analysts on ESPN said the arm swing to the right (or left, depending one if the batter is right or left handed) indicates that he swung the bat. The pump of the fist in that situation means it was a strike. They say it is the SECOND pump of the fist that indicates an out, and this ump did not give the second pump of the fist. Which leads them to believe MLB needs to revise their mechanics so the out and the strike mechanic is not identical.
Does this help at all or have I just incurred the wrath of real baseball fans? I’m doing like I do in sermons … stealing someone else’s material. But who can doubt that Randy has, indeed, received a latter day prophecy?

The word verification should have been: tcojcaldr
That would stand for “The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Randys.”
I feel that the other “field blues” indecisiveness demonstrates that they felt the 3rd strike was called, batter out. The whole scene of fielders running off the field, an “out” batter running to first base, and the blues standing around as if hit by a neutron (kills people not things) bomb reminded me of a scene from one of Steven’s Little League games!
