Thanks for remembering Reese last Friday in your prayers. As you remember, I was not praying for him to get an A. I was praying for him to remember what he had studied. I was praying for him not to be calm and assured in the taking of the test. He was calm and assured. He did remember what he studied and, as it turns out, he got an A.

No jokes on this one. I’m still processing the news of the minister who was electrocuted while performing a baptism over the weekend. While standing waist deep in the baptistry he reached out to adjust a nearby microphone and was electrocuted. He was married with three young children. Thankfully the children were involved in the children’s program and did not see this event. Doctors performed CPR to no avail and he was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.

I’ve been in the exact same situation. In a baptistry with the baptistry microphone. Not any more. If you have a microphone near the baptistry go rip it out today. If you just need to use a microphone use a battery operated handheld.

Some closing thoughts from Psalm 67:

God, have mercy on us and bless us and show us your kindness so the world will learn your ways, and all nations will learn that you can save. God, the people should praise you; all people should praise you. The nations should be glad and sing because you judge people fairly. You guide all the nations on earth. God, the people should praise you; all people should praise you. The land has given its crops. God, our God, blesses us. God blesses us so people all over the earth will fear him.

    Go, Reese!

The electrocution/baptistry story sure did conjure up some sobering thoughts. You guys be safe.

For years, our baptistry was heated by a coil unit that hung on the wall by the ladie’s dressing room. This “thing” that looked like the heating element for a huge deep fat fryer went down into the water to heat it. Very inefficient to say the least. The harrowing thing about it was an electrical box just above it with a very bright sign telling anyone in the baptistry to make sure the switch was in the OFF position or death would result! We finally got a much safer heating system. My heart went out to the pastor’s family.
We don’t use a mic in the baptistry. We tell people if they want to hear it come gather around us on stage.

Randy, that Psalm brought tears to my eyes. What version is that? I love the use of the word “should.”

I read about the Waco pastor in the Vintage Faith blog I have linked. The amazing thing to me is that he had written a book about God’s will. The event certainly makes me want to read it and learn his thoughts. My heart goes out to his family and to his church. How many will not be able to return? How will they go on from here?

    First:
Congraulations Reese en la prueba de ciencia.
Second - I can’t imagine what the Pastor’s family or his church is going through right now. We have a hanging mic over our baptistry but it is well out of reach of anyone in the baptistry.
