Yesterday’s experience as an official translator was unlike any other language experience I’ve ever had. I had to sign an affidavit of competence and was sworn in — the whole raise your right hand and solemnly swear. Wouldn’t it be funny if we had such practices right before the preacher begins speaking? OK, Greg, raise your right hand and repeat after me . . . .

Many of you will be traveling today. Our first wave of company has landed on the beach. I’m sure you are joining with me in praying for safety for all you travelers out there.

Our house will be full again tomorrow. A mixture of family and church friends. I’m in charge of pies this year and I’m probably just going to make apple and pumpkin. I’ve tried to make a pecan pie before without success. So, I’ll just stick to the basics.

Psalm 105:1-5 (NCV) Give thanks to the LORD and pray to him. Tell the nations what he has done. Sing to him; sing praises to him. Tell about all his miracles. Be glad that you are his; let those who seek the LORD be happy. Depend on the LORD and his strength; always go to him for help. Remember the miracles he has done; remember his wonders and his decisions.

Have a wonderful holiday with all of your family and extended family. Doris and I had our Thanksgiving this past Sunday with her kids and grandkids, so we’ve already been eating leftovers! Tomorrow, we’ll go to a nephew’s house to have a meal with that family, and my sister is now lobbying for us to drive to Arkansas this afternoon for her family’s get-together tonight! Avoiding the sweets is certainly difficult this time of year.

I love this holiday because it has all the family surroundings without the Christmas-gift buying, as discussed in earlier blogs! As everybody does, I like to reflect on what the Lord has done for me this year, and one of the things I am especially grateful for is adoption into this blogging family. God bless.

Living abroad makes me wonder sometimes whether I’m robbing my kids of quintessential Americana, like Thanksgiving. In a sense the answer is: of course. We’ll be celebrating the day, like we always do, but it’ll be different from the Turkey Days of my own youth.

I certainly miss the simpler time of eating to the point of food coma and trying to watch football. And the leftovers. But, here I am, trying, as a brighter mind once put it, “to serve the purpose of God in my own generation.”

This year for Thanksgiving we’re headed to Iguazu Falls (aka The Devil’s Throat). It promises to be 90 degrees, 90% relative humidity.

I suspect that when the trip is done, we’ll be adding our own lines to Psalm 95:

The mountain peaks belong to Him; the sea is His, He made it. And His hands formed the mighty waterfalls at the border of Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil.

Randy, get a bottle of the clear Karo syrup and follow the directions for pecan pie on that bottle. Best recipe we’ve ever found for pecan pie.
I know you’ll have a great family time! You and your family are very special to us and when we think of how God has blessed us, the Wray family is a large part of the blessing. For that matter, I was just talking w/ my sister and this little blog community is a blessing to us as well. Thanks to all of you who have welcomed her into this demented phase of life.

after hosting 43 people in our home last year, all family, we’re going to friends this year with a managable 17 people. Gee, the place will seem empty.

agree with Greg on the Karo recipe. I’ve used it for years. For the “low-cal” version, melt 4 squares of semisweet chocolate with butter into it. Hey, if you’re going to feast might as well make it worth it.

I’m thinking we should start a cooking blog.
