Another full weekend in the books. Yesterday was a marathon day in many respects but many good things promise to begin as a result.
In our small group Bible study last night we discussed the need to prepare rather than react. We noted how often difficult situations become worse because we react to the situation rather than having a plan going in as to what we will say and how we will say it.
We are continuing our reflection from Philippians 4:8, focusing especially on this phrase: “Think about the things that are pure and beautiful and respected.” We talked about how these thoughts would help in specific times of stress, conflict, and even success.
Please keep Oscar Gomez and his family in your prayers. Oscar is one of our ministers and learned late last night that his sister died in El Salvador. He will be flying to El Salvador today for the funeral.

Oscar’s a good guy. Sorry to hear his sister died.
Yesterday morning I was attacked by a certain member of our church because I slightly changed the wording of a bulletin blurb she’d submitted for an event happening in June! I wasn’t prepared for such a huge issue over such a miniscule circumstance. By the way, I preached on giving others a second chance! I wonder if she heard me?

Greg - Satan can sometimes be a good “set-up” guy. Reference your attacker and the title of your sermon.
Prayers are going up for Oscar and his family. I still remember how Kent from our church grabbed him and gave him a great big bear hug the first time we met Oscar at LAX.

Have prayed for Oscar and his family and his travels.
It’s hard to be disciplined enough to be prepared and not react, isn’t it? At least, I know I have trouble with it!

One of the ways I can tell I’ve grown up a little is that I find it easier to take a breath before saying the first thing on my mind. I hope to keep growing up so that I don’t even think it anymore but time will tell.
So sorry for Oscar. We’ll be in prayer.

Sorry to hear about Oscar’s family.
Let’s not talk about responding to criticism. NOT my favorite topic.
Glad to hear the parent teacher student conferences went well.

To do list:
1) Overcome genetic predisposition toward laziness
2) Identify important scenarios and how to handle them so as not to give in to “the heat of the moment” (cue Asia’s 1982 hit of same name)
3) Think about beautiful and uplifting things even if 1), 2) above are pending.
