Today’s post will be the last installment of those wonderful AC facts. Three major events, relating to air conditioning occured in the 1950’s.
First . . .
1950 - A major study shows that families living in air conditioned homes sleep longer in summer, enjoy their food more, and have more leisure time.
Made me think of the comment meowmix made about her trading the air conditioner they won for fear of getting sick.
Following the study, probably funded by the AC manufacturers . . .
1953 - Room air conditioner sales exceed one million units with demand still exceeding supply.
And now that everyone is going to be spending more time inside - let the laziness begin . . .
1955 - Mass marketing of frozen dinners begins: ads promote "TV dinners."
The rest of the AC timeline is rather boring so I will fast forward . . .
2006 - The AC is replaced in the Wray house.
Thus bringing to an end the exciting and stimulating thoughts on AC.

I’m having trouble leaving comments, so hopefully I don’t just keep posting the same thing over and over, but I wanted to say that I will miss the AC history lesson, but I’m glad you can finally be comfortable in your own home.
Plus, I bet you were like totally sweating all over the furniture and it was like totally gross.

Air conditioning has become extremely critical to me lately as I am turning 50 years old soon and have been suffering from what I am calling a “busted thermostat.”
I am ready to take hostages when I am overheated.
My family and friends have learned its just easier to wear a coat indoors than to ask me to turn it off.
Step away from Peggy’s AC, and everyone will be unharmed.

The study in the 1950’s makes me wonder: was it the air conditioner that left people better rested and enjoying food and leisure..or was it that those people who could afford AC in the 1950’s were better rested and enjoyed their lives more? We put in AC just before I got pregnant with our son and I can tell you that my husband was better rested and enjoyed his life more when he could maintain an icy temperate in the house for his swelling wife!
The corrolary to that study is probably one that said that people with air conditoners have more friends (the same boast that people with boats, hot tubs, and vacation homes at the beach can make).

Good to hear you and the “fam” will finally be able to chill out at your soon to be vacated home.
With the hurricanes of the last couple of years and the subsequent power outages, we’ve really come to appreciate a/c. Even if it comes from a window unit powered by a generator.

It’s true, your posts have been a breath of fresh air the last few days.
Glad we get to be with you when you’re happy and eating better and sleeping longer. Sounds pretty good to me.
