Delivered my final message yesterday at Arlington. Spent about two weeks working on this one - writing and re-writing.
It was a difficult from the standpoint of saying what I wanted to say to challenge and encourage the body in 20 minutes. For in the immortal words of Lemoine Lewis "no soul saved after 20 minutes!" Or, "for a sermon to be immortal it need not be eternal."

I’ve been thinking about you and your family and the Arlington church a lot in this transitional time. Wish I could have been there to deliver a smile and a hug in person. Hang in there!
RW: I thought about you often yesterday. I’d love to read the MS of your final sermon to Arlington.
Been there many times. I like 1 Corinthians 15:58 as a text. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Once I used the book of Habakkuk in a message entitled “Wrath & Mercy.” It seemed appropriate as it was a difficult transition.
Tough one bro. I’ve been here 22 years and can’t imagine the experience. Peace in your new setting.
Have you already been removed from your e-mail at the church? I’ve sent you a couple in the last few days that have come back undeliverable. And they were really good stories, too!
It was a great message too! I thought it was a nice summation of
all the messages you’ve given us–you can’t get much more to the point. Next thing you’ll have to do is put your messages on your website so those of us who want to keep hearing them can.
Add me to the list of people who would like to read that last message. I know there must be a lot of tears mixed with the excitement of what’s to come. You and the fam will continue to be in my prayers more than ever during the time of transition.
By the way, it’s hot on the west coast. Good idea to hang out there a few days longer.
Lemoine’s classes always lasted more than 20 minutes. But I only remember the first 10.
Glad you made it through it. Good things are waiting for you in CA.
I’ll join Greg and Steve on the reader’s list. May God bless you and the fam during this transition.
Add me to the list of folks that would love to know the rest of the message. Leaving a church can be a bit tramatic. I left one after almost 20 years. Going to a new church can be rewarding and exciting. Still living that one going on 6 years. God bless.
We all have a file of “sermons I’d like to preach on my last Sunday here.” It’s probably better not to preach those. I’m sure God will continue to bless those words in the lives of the folks who love you. Just go ahead and post the sermon so we can all read it. And now to packing boxes……. thinking of you and praying for a smooth move.
