Holy Water

While sitting in my assigned chair, behind the podium, at the memorial service yesterday I had much time to stare at the shelf contents of the podium.

Paper fans, candles, a Bible, Kleenex, other items I couldn’t distinguish, some trash and a plastic bottle of holy water.

I mean no disrespect.  But with my latest kidney episodes and the doctors orders to drink as much water as possible . . .

I gave some serious thought to . . .

. . . after all, I reasoned, my kidneys could use the blessing.

You should have! I was looking for holy water once at the mortuary (when I was a neophyte) and asked the director where we kept it. She told me, “Just take the bottle and go fill it up in the bathroom sink.” All my life I thought there was something special about that stuff. I later learned you just take regular water and boil the hell out of it!

I was singing at a wedding once and on the wall next to me was a “Holy Water” fountain. The sign above it said “HOly Water”. Yes the city of Springfield dilivers holy water directly to the sancuary of your choice, just turn the knob and
    Wa la! Holy Water.

    Holy water, Batman!

I’m still thinking about you, fellow kidney stone sufferer. I pray you pass it soon.

Perhaps you should have drank the “Holy Water” while reading Max Lucado’s book, “He Still Moves Stones?”

Maybe Greg can bring you some Bixby Knolls “Holy Water?”

You guys are just too funny! Where do ya’ll come up with this stuff? Greg, what am I going to do with you?? Behave yourself. Actually, the rest of you could behave, too. Randy, are you still carrying that thing around? As for you, Cecil…I don’t know. That’s priceless!!

A friend of mine said that the first indication that he should think again about his “Catholic” faith was when as a child he followed the garden hose around the church building to a place where the “holy water” was. The priest was there filling it up.

It’s been over 17 years since I sat where you sat but I recognize the items you mentioned. Some things never change.Check the date on that Holy Water before drinking.
