I’m looking for some movie suggestions to add to my Netflix Queue.
Your suggestions should fall into one of these two categories:
1. Movies we can watch with the kids.
2. Movies we would not watch with the kids but would not be embarrassed to say we watched.
Greg, don’t even bother suggesting Robin Hood, Men In Tights.
At all costs please avoid the following category:
3. Movies that stole two hours of my life.

1. Prancer - category 1. Its a nice holiday movie to watch with the kids. I’ve seen it several times.
Silly but good.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights. It’s now out on DVD if you are lucky enough to find it. And if I am so fortunate as to run into that kind of luck, you will be the first to receive a copy, complimentary of course.

“Christmas Vacation” - A #2 category. A must during the holidays.

Category # 2- Little Miss Sunshine. Don’t miss it!

I refuse to make a suggestion. The last time I did you threw the movie at me and accused me of being a terrible friend. Then you went on to laugh at every quote I made from that movie for the next year. “It’s funny when you say it.” Whatever…
I’m doing the Netflix thing now. If you’ve got Netflix and want to share video lists, email me.
And I’d happily take a copy of Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

You just saw this on my blog, but our new family favorite is “Miracle”, the story of the 1980 U.S. hockey team. “Glory Road” is next in our queue. I’ll share video lists with you, as well, if you’d like (cause, you know, I’m so cool you’ll undoubtedly want to follow my lead).

I haven’t seen a new movie since Narnia and Batman begins. Not true. Peter Pan, not Hook or the Disney cartoon, was a family movie we all watched last week. Not bad, specially if you’re just renting.

I don’t know what the significance of Netflix is, and I don’t see many movies. The last two movies I saw were Ladder 49 and World Trade Center, which I guess would fall into category 2. I recommend both.

Two web sites for you to help with selecting movies that are appropriate and age appropriate.
http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/moviemom/
Movie Mom lists movies, rates them using a A, B C, D etc rating and also lists the ages that, in her opinion, should view the movie.
http://www.screenit.com
Screenit is the most comprehensive site I know that gives both an analysis and a rating based on a 10 point scale. You can find detailed information on about 15 categories like scary scenes, profanity, violence, etc. that are very helpful to making a decision about whether to view a movie or not.
Peace.

For category 1, I would submit March of the Penguins, which I loved, but Tim reminded me that he fell asleep in two minutes, and predicts that you would be asleed in five minutes, MAX. Perhaps it could be placed in the insomnia cure category/?? But I loved it, I really did.

This day’s entry finally prompted my registration. Great movie in category 1: Foreign language film (french subtitles), Les Choristes. Brady and Stephanie and family wouldn’t need the subtitles for obvious reasons. For the rest of us, give this foreign film a try if you’ve never tried one. My kids loved it. It has a killer soundtrack (currently playing in my head) available on iTunes. We love that too.
And by the way, I can’t believe you had any fun on Thanksgiving without us either.
