We went to see the film Eragon this past weekend and I, for one, was pleasantly surprised. The kids have read the book and were able to fill me in on the gaps and discrepancies.
Ever notice how the evil bad guys members of the mutant army look like Raider fans? Both in the film Eragon and Lord of The Rings don’t the scary mutant things look like an end zone shot from a Raider home game? Talk about an easy casting assignment.
Producer - "We need to shoot these battle scenes and need some extras to play the menacing hoard."
Casting Director - "No problem. The Raiders have a home game this week."
Producer - "Brilliant!"
Casting Director - "Brilliant!"
Speaking of fans, my friend Greg has been having some interesting correspondence with a "concerned" editor of one of those "brotherhood journals." (I wasn’t sure which word to put into quotation there so I just included both).
Alas, we too have received a letter. Here is the text of the letter:
Dear Sir,
Have been in Calif since 3 years old but never learned to respect the state (now age 64)
If you were running your state right I wouldn’t be here.
(the signature is one half of an X)
I knew that as a church we were in a position of influence. We just were not aware of the extent of our influence. So for all of you who live in California know that we pledge this year to make this state a better place to live.
Not sure what that means but we make the pledge anyway.

Hmmm … maybe I will respond to my editor buddy with something to this effect:
Dear Sir,
Have been in the church since 12 years old but never learned to respect your position (now 53)
If you were running the church right I wouldn’t be here.
Signed, X (with a part of one leg erased)
Thanks for the invaluable insight!

I think I missed something!
On your last post, I think, I asked for clarification as to what a “blog cash cow” is. Maybe I should know that, but you have to understand I was born and raised in Arkansas and now live in Tennessee. I’m not sure we have blog cash cows, but Brady suggested I might have one now, and I need to know exactly what it is!!

Bro – At the risk of sounding like a “girlie-man,†whatever you do please make sure you O.K. your improvement plans with the “Govenator.†I want to be able to hang with you at Pepperdine.

Actually, I meant to suggest that Chipper was Randy’s Blog Cash Cow now. But rereading my comment, I see that it really isn’t clear.
Kind of like that letter. Maybe they think you’ve got inroads to Sacramento, got the Austrian’s ear, or something like that.
Kathleen has seen that film twice (her friends made her go) and she did not like it at all. You would have enjoyed/hated (underline whichever applies) our dinner convos recently… KB and Just have that book memorized…

We received the same letter. Exactly. I didn’t know what it meant, either. Glad to see it was a wide spread anger, and not just personal against us.

I just don’t get it. Did the rest of you receive a copy of “What’s Happening to the Church?” that came out a few years ago? I think that was the title. I’ll have to check when I get to the office tomorrow.

So little time to be here and what a waste of time some are making of it. I know I’m not perfect, but I would hate to meet God one day having used my time to write letters to people about things that really don’t matter while leaving people all around me to die without Jesus.
