Here’s some Vegas “corn” for you.

Two friends, Smith and Jones, went together to play the slot machines at the casino. Each agreed that when his allotted money was gone, he would go to the front of the casino and sit on the bench to wait for his friend.

Jones quickly lost all of his money and went to sit on the bench. He waited and waited and waited and waited.

After what seemed an eternity, he saw Smith coming toward him carrying a huge sack of coins. “Hey, Jones,” said Smith, “how’d you do?” “Well, Smith”, said Jones, “you see me here on this bench- what do you think? It looks like you hit it big, though.” “Oh yeah,” said Smith, “did I find a good machine! It’s way in the back. I’ll show it to you-you can’t lose! EVERY TIME YOU PUT IN A DOLLAR FOUR QUARTERS COME OUT!!!”

My only trip to Vegas was right after college. Although this was not the reason for my trip there, I actually ended up attending a marriage enrichment seminar while there. One of those Brecheen & Faulkner things they used to do around the country. Wasn’t even married at the time, it just seemed like an interesting thing to do. I’m not sure marriage enrichment seminars are a leading reason for a trip to Vegas, especially for single college guys, but now that I think about it, the town could probably use some of these on a regular basis. Maybe this could be a new gig for you Randy. I did eventually make it down to the strip but didn’t gamble. Not for any ethical reasons, though. My $0.73 I had just didn’t go very far.

I’m proud of you for being such a supportive husband. I know, too, just how difficult it was to decide to abandon your office to conduct sermon research in such a place as Las Vegas. Our prayers are with you during this most trying time. If you should happen to, you know … win anything big, remember your poor friends in Southern California. The ones with the special dog you love so much.
