The area wide service in Sacramento was a delight. Hosted at the Parkway Church, a predominantly African-American church, the singing was energetic and enthusiastic. A few of our Central members made the drive up and it was encouraging to see their faces in the sea of faces. At one point during the singing my mind drifted back to the many pleasant memories of my time with the "Say So" Singers in South Texas. One of my High School friends attended the black church in town and invited me to sing with their singing group. I sang bass along with two other men and one woman (who could sing lower than all of us). Forget sheet music and notes when you sang with the Say So singers you sang from your heart and your life experience. A challenging exercise for a high school kid!
The brothers and sisters were very gracious and welcoming. It’s a lot of work preparing two messages from scratch in a single week. But in this case, it was certainly worth the effort.
As if that were not enough, we’ve been officially welcomed to Stockton. The committee stopped by some time last night and ripped the cd player from out of the dash in the van.
