Pool

I played pool with the guys again yesterday and made an astonishing discovery that changed my pool prowess.

I’d always look at where I wanted the ball to go and then focused completely on the cue ball with a view of striking it correctly.  But then, I decided to quite focusing on the cue ball and keep my eye on the ball I was intending to strike with the cue ball and more importantly where I wanted the ball to go.

The difference was amazing.  I began to actually make shots - more than the ones right next to a pocket.

There’s probably a real good analogy in this little anecdote about vision and other such leadership issues.  You don’t hear many sermons on leadership and vision rooted in pool playing.  Maybe I’ve found a new ANGLE.

I think you should have a pool table placed on the pulpit for that sermon and invite the elders up for a friendly game.

I believe the Beverly Hillbillies called it “Billy-ards.”
I had a friend who went to the NASCAR Driving
School in Atlanta. He was unable to get his car over 120mph until one of the instructors told him he needed to focus on the turn 2 as he went into turn 1.
I like Greg’s idea as well. How about a game of “Cut-throat” with the elders.

I used to love the Beverly Hillbillies and their crazy way to describe the “billy-yard table.” They used it to eat supper on and the sticks were “pot-passers.” Funny stuff.

Don’t ask me why I thought of that when you mentrioned pool. I must really need to go to bed.

I’ve heard it expressed this way. When you are driving a car, you spend most of you time looking ahead through the windshield and occasionally glance into the rear view mirror. The rear view mirror is much smaller for a reason. You are supposed to spend most of your time looking ahead through the windshield to see where you need to go and not through the rearview mirror where you have already been or you may wind up wrapped around a tree.

    Peace.

Doggone it; I’ve had to type this twice because it went away the first time!

I like Greg’s idea, too. You didn’t expect that from this corner, did you?

I think Paul was probably a pool player such as yourself. “Forgetting those things which are behind and pressing forward………….”
