I hear quite frequently, these days, of the need to improve communication.  Part of me wonders if its just a response (like the old days when the buzz phrase was "we just need more education") to things we don’t like or that stretch our comfort zones.

Nevertheless, we’ve taken great pains to improve our communication.

What do those of you "in the pew" suggest to improve communication?  What do you want to hear, when do you want to hear it, how do you want to hear it?

   I liked the site better than before, that kept asking me for a password…

   Clear and clean. I don’t really like getting downloaded .pdf when I click on a link, but it is easier that way.

   In my congregation, news is often not shared until the next church service and that by way of announcements. When a crisis such as death or serious illness arises within the church family, it would be nice to know about it when it happens and not after-the-fact. One of the things Doris and I would like to do is make a practice of attending out-of-town funerals, when possible, involving family members of our congregation. Most of the time, we don’t know about it until the funeral has already taken place. Ours is a small congregation, and I have volunteered to make phone calls but have only been asked to do so one time. If an event is known in a timely manner: 1) it can be prayed about earlier and 2) assistance can be provided sooner by more people.

   I haven’t been able to get into your church website through the links so am unable to read what you are doing, but it looks great from the titles. Technology is such a big part of our world today and so many have computers that I’m sure the blogs work really well. Newsletters, bulletins, etc. are very helpful, too. One church I know of here in Memphis (probably more) have a church hotline that is updated daily, I believe, and all the members can call and get new information on what’s going on.
