News From Mexico III

Despite the thievery the morale remains high.   The long arm of Walmart has reached Ensenada (a supercenter no less) so critical items like underwear and toiletries have been purchased.

Yesterday, the team tore down the old patio covering and removed the old columns.  The new columns were constructed last week prior to our arrival and we placed a 40′ steel beam on top of the columns to begin the foundation of the super-structure.

We’ve never worked with steel beams before.  It kind of has that feel of what you see in those old pictures of constructing the Golden Gate bridge.  We managed to place that 40′ beam using the truck that delivered the beam as the pivot point and good ol’ fashioned American / Mexican muscle.

Tomorrow I’ll tell you the humorous, yet tragic, story of the taco cart.

Any developments as to how to get everyone back across the border w/out the ID papers?

Leave it to Wal-Mart to find a way to serve in Mexico. Steel beam? I have images of you walking across a narrow beam to bolt in the steel beam using one of those cool air guns.

Doggone it. I got kicked out; now I’ve gotta try and remember what I’d written!

I think I’d made a comment about how funny it is that Wal-Mart made it into Mexico but can’t, at least as I’ve been told, get into the D.C.-proper area!

Also, I alluded to working on my own patio. My ears picked up when you mentioned patio. I knocked down part of ours, tore off old rotten screen and now only have a frame left, which I am attempting to paint……from a ladder! Would you like to put another star in your crown and swing by Memphis on your way home?? :)

Imagine my surprise when in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in March and found not only a Supercenter but also a Sam’s Club.
