I was part of the future last night — at least I hope it is the future.
Honestly, for some time, I’ve hoped it was our present but am encouraged and inspired that it’s our future.
We had the chance to attend a 20 something (the age group) worship gathering last night and it was incredible.
They stood for the better part of an hour. They sat or knelt to pray for a while but stood the rest of the time.
No one had to tell them to stand up. They just did.
No one had to tell them to feel free to lift their hands. They just did.
No one had to tell them to lift their hearts. They just did.
No one had to tell them to lift their voices. They just did.
I didn’t know all the songs, it didn’t really matter. I was swept up in the voices and energy of the worshipers.
Even on the songs I did know I didn’t want to sing. I wanted to listen. I just wanted to listen and absorb every note, every word.
My heart was touched as I thought about by my own kids - it’s what I want for them. I want them to engage and interact as the share in the experience of worship.
It looks and sounds different from what we are used to and it should look and sound different.
It’s time for the lot of us to step aside and let a new generation with a fresh voice and a fresh passion for God lead us to an experience of worship completely dedicated to God.
I saw the future.
I was part of it for 1 hour and hope it was the first hour and not the last.
