Each year the leadership here gathers together for a "retreat" (I prefer the word advance).

We will review the past year and what we could have done better.

We will look to the next year and continue to discern how we can join God in the work of redemption.

Telecommuting, e-commuting, e-work, telework, working at home (WAH), or working from home (WFH) is a work. arrangement in which employees enjoy limited flexibility in working location and hours

So says wikipedia (and we all know we can trust everything wiki says).

This past week I’ve been working from home.  The sheetrockers have been rocking all week long and since Beth works from home she feels more comfortable with me around.  Wouldn’t you?  I mean have you seen my biceps?

It’s been nice.  I’m completely ahead of my normal weekly schedule which I attribute to not having to deal with all the administrative stuff that goes along with my job.

So I’ve gotten a lot of work done (I mean a lot of work) but still feel the need to clarify in the office that I’m working from home as opposed to working at or on my home.  Strange.

My friend Brad even showed me yesterday how to use iChat theater for a remote presentation.

    Which means, come Sunday . . .

A certain young lady we know received the following awards at school this morning:

    Student of the Month
Coach’s Pick (Volleyball) for most inspirational player
Athletic Directors Pick (Silver Sports Star) for key player (Volleyball)

Sure, we are proud of this certain young lady but it was a bit embarrassing.

A quick google reveals polar opposite opinions on what is referred to by many as the emerging church movement.

What strikes me, as it does in all things religious, how those who are vehemently opposed to something can be opposed in such a mean-spirited manner.

Forgot the buzzwords of postmodern, missional and emergent.

What do we need to learn from this movement?

What do we need to accept as a viable means of reaching this generation?

We’re rounding third and headed for home.

The sheetrock crew will arrive today and work their magic.

Because of the plaster walls and plaster ceilings and the plethora of holes we decided to put a lid (or cap) on the entire ceiling, patch the walls and new rock in the kitchen.

We decided this because of the thickness difference between the plaster and the new sheetrock.

Our goal all along has been to do such a good job at this that you couldn’t tell that "we" did it.

I debated doing the sheetrock myself but that whole time versus savings thing.

So the rock is going up, the texture is next, Beth will paint and cabinets are next.

By now many people have shopped and are ready to drop.

    I’ve been there.

I’ve arrived in the wee hours of the morning to get one of 6 or one of 12 items.

I’ve stood in the line and braved the crowds and made a decision a few years ago that sounds something like "not again."

I know some people enjoy the pursuit, the hunt.  It is a challenge and a quest for some and I say more power to you.

    It’s just not for me.

I wish I could say it’s because I’ve learned to be content.

It’s more because I’d rather not endure the gauntlet.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

There is one word above any other word that offends me the most.

Brace yourself, I’m going to share the word with you.

    It’s the word plumbing.

I would be hard pressed to share with you my deep seated hatred for this word and everything it represents.

But wow, I can get jazzed about toilet technology.

So we had to replace a toilet last night – that’s the boring news.

The exciting news is that since the last time we had to replace a toilet there have been some great advancements in toilet technology.

    Self closing toilet seats.

    Comfort height bowls.

And a toilet that will flush an entire basket of golf balls in one single flush.

For the life of me I could not talk Beth into buying that toilet.

Can’t you see it, at our house warming party?

"Hey, sure the kitchen is nice and all, yeah the tile and the counters and stainless appliances are great and all – but grab that basket of golf balls and come check out our new toilet."

We won’t be finished with the remodel by thanksgiving but we hope it will be just a couple more weeks.

Most of the "major" things are done and the detail work is beginning.

I greatly enjoy the demolition and construction side of these projects.  Not so much the detail work and the finishing touches.

Which is why you hire detail oriented people!

We talked last night about our first party and decided it will be for all the people that brought us food or had us over for dinner during the mess.

We thought about some take out, or pizza or maybe even a potluck.  (if you need me to explain the joke let me know)

So, it’s not too late to make first party.

All you need to do is bring over a lasagna.

We got to attend a birthday party this weekend for a patriarch who turned 90.

    The slide show was great.

    Aren’t the old pictures fun?

Most of us won’t have such slide shows (the ones where the pictures start out in black and white move to that early color and now in digital color).

Come to think of it, most of us may not even make it to 90.

But if you don’t, fear not, we have a blogger in the business:

England Family Mortuary, "We’ll be the last ones to let you down."

Perhaps we should devote this short work week to potential slogans for England Family Mortuary?
