And Then Some . . .

Posted under Blog Thoughts

The planets realigned.

Dogs and cats are no longer living together.

There is no more mass hysteria.

My Sunday message was longer than 14 minutes.

Way longer.

I made up for the minute short-fall of last week and banked a few credits for next week.

Greg, you would have been proud.

In other news one of our bloggers has turned 49 today.

I won’t embarrass him by mentioning his name but it sounds like rady and starts with a B.

A Preview And A Review

Posted under Blog Thoughts

Both kids spent the night with friends yesterday.

The house was quiet.  Too quiet.

I took an allergy pill at around 4PM and woke up around 7:30PM.

Wiping the drool off my mouth I turned to my sweetie and said "want to go get something to eat?"

We tried a THAI restaurant with mixed results and returned home to watch a film.

My review of Little Miss Sunshine (think of The Royal Tenenbaums,Vacation, and Life Aquatic all rolled into one) is as follows:

1.  Way too much foul language.

2.  Way too much like reality.

3.  If you can wade through the foul language you get a glimpse into the pain of being family.

Cruise on over to Arte Tactil to see the work David painted for us Sunday morning.

You will also read something quite unbelievable about the morning.

Easter Tradition

Posted under Blog Thoughts

We joined Madison’s softball team again this year for the annual Easter picnic.

We eat, we laugh, the kids hunt eggs, we talk, (interesting conversations occur around you at these type of gatherings) and we play a game of softball (parents v. kids).

This year the moms played on the girls team against the dads.

Outnumbered as we were (we had 6 players) we squeaked out a win.

Was it worth the painkillers being consumed today?

Yes.

Field Trip

Posted under Blog Thoughts

Most of our SCS 7th and 8th graders have been on the east coast for a class tour.

Five 7th graders and four 8th graders remained. It’s been a quiet but lonely week for them.

Following through on the idea of my better half, I will take them to the movies this morning.

A field trip to examine the literary techniques and cinematography strategies of Horton Hears A Who.

Good teachers, you see, find ways to impart knowledge in a wide variety of venues.

Chikezie Strikes Again

Posted under Blog Thoughts

First a banjo and now a harmonica and a dobro.

What will he use next week a mandolin and a wash tub?

Though not as tight as his performance last week, Chikezie stepped up to the plate and entertained America with his daring use of southern / bluegrass instrumentation.

At this rate I can’t wait until they get to the VanHalen catalog.

Time Machine

Posted under Blog Thoughts

Due to a couple of decisions I made yesterday I got to use the Time Machine feature of my Mac OS.

Mac has a commercial about this new feature of Leopard that explains the drill.

All I can say is wow!

Something that actually works as advertised.

Now if I could just use the Time Machine feature to find the hair that used to be on my head.

Greensleeves or pants, or shirt, or scarf, or . . .

Posted under Blog Thoughts

I never remember St. Patrick’s Day.

Talk about it all you want leading up to the day but on the day (like today) I got up and put on all brown.

Can I get a shout out for the men and women of UPS?

The problem with my wardrobe is that our church campus is the home of Sierra Christian School, a K-8 school.

School children, as you remember, take days such as this quite seriously.

We walked into my office and immediately had that moment of realization that today was St. Patrick’s Day.

Reese looked down at his clothes and saw that he had in fact put on a green shirt (total coincidence) did a quick Tiger fist pump and said "I’m ready to go."

Madison and I looked at each in despair - neither of us had on green.

With the speed and ingenuity of McGyver I jumped quickly into action.

Grabbing a green carabiner and a green ribbon from my NOC ‘07 badge we made some quick alterations to her outfit (two snaps in a Z formation) and she was ready.

A quick trip home was in my future!

Jury Duty

Posted under Blog Thoughts

I was called to report for jury duty this week.

In Stockton you are given a number and you check a website the weekend before your service to see if you have to report.

So far, each day, my group has not had to report.  We’ve just been told to check each evening for instructions for the following day.

Today is the last day of the window where I potentially might have to serve.

My instructions last night were to check in at 11:00AM for possible service at 12:30PM.

Of course, since I blogged about it, I’m fully expecting that I will need to report.

I’m not really concerned about being selected as a juror.

When you begin every answer (and I mean every answer) with "well as the good book says" or "have you come to the place in your spiritual life . . ." it tends to invoke a peremptory challenge.

[Note:  Of course If called I'll take my turn and fulfill my civic duty.]
