Have you ever thought you had done something, taken care of a little detail, only to discover that you hadn’t?

I finally figured out that I had left Mews from Meowmix off my blog buddies list.

Is there any specific reason for the oversight?  (I don’t think so unless of course you consider the cat thing).

It certainly wasn’t an effort on my part to hurt her felines.

So, to make up for the oversight, an entire post devoted to . . . cough, cough, hack, hack (pesky hair ball) . . . Meowmix.

Even when I have nothing to say at least one of my blog buddies has something to say.

Check one or two out when you get a chance.

I’m in one of those lulls where writing is a chore.

I’ve reviewed and realized I haven’t written much of anything for a while that contains any real substance.

Unable to reconcile the tension (is this just a family update blog or a tool to impart spiritual encouragement) I’ve gravitated toward the family update.

That’s not the only reason for the gravitation, (I also realize) finding spiritual encouragement (much less sharing that) has been difficult.

I’m fine (at least I think so) the family is generally fine (at least I think so) we have our issues (don’t we all?) so for now we just keep up the routine and hope for the breakthrough.

Not a pity party – just awareness (i think there is a difference).

The girl played in her first home game last night for the Lincoln Freshman Volleyball team.

They barely won the first game but dropped the next two to lose the match.

Soccer season starts for the boy tomorrow and since his game schedules and her game schedules fall on the same day at the same time in different places we’re going to have to work out some rotation of our own so that at least one parent can be in attendance.

We hope to avoid in moving violations while executing the rotation.

The band is cranking back up for another tour.

In addition to our praise oriented sets we’ve been kicking around the idea of doing some quality secular stuff.

Our drummer has an idea to do an entire set comprised of songs named after a woman.

Some choices in this genre would be Roxanne (The Police), Rosanna (Toto), and Cecilia (Simon & Garfunkel).

What are your entries for consideration?

We attended back to school night for Lincoln High School last night.

It consisted of 10 minutes in each of the classes of your student.

The campus is spread out and you can get a fair amount of exercise getting back and forth from class.

We walked our girls schedule, met her teachers and heard a reoccurring theme:  No textbooks.

Every single class (with the exception of Choir and English which don’t require textbooks) talked about not having textbooks for the students.

The one class (Health) that did have a textbook only had a set for class use.

At least her Geometry textbook was online (which was impressive) and makes me wonder why they don’t just make all the textbooks available online?

I was impressed with the teachers and their passion for their subject (with one exception) and their commitment to the students.

Every single one of them (except one) communicated their availability to the students before school, after school and during lunch.

It’s still a little frightening to think we are old enough for a high school freshman.

Nick Vujicic was born without arms or legs and has only a vestigal foot.

The newspaper I was given talked about his recent speaking engagement at St. Mary’s High School.

Would have liked to have been in the audience that day.

His story, and his approach to life seems to quell quite a bit of background noise.

As part of my “to do” list to qualify as a substitute teacher I had to get a TB test yesterday.

Fortunately the nurse who “administered” the test had a sense of humor and understood my joke about studying for the TB test.

Of course you have a sense of humor. Everyone thinks they do, even people who don’t.

Give yourself 10 points if you know the movie from whence that quote derives.

So, I get the injection of the TB virus into my arm and I’m walking out the door and involuntarily I cough.

I must be getting the black lung papa!

We were excited to welcome Rubio’s to Stockton, California.

Even more to learn that each Tuesday’s from 2:30PM to close the fish tacos are only $1.25.

Of course only $1.25 means little when you consider that the same fish taco in Mexico is only about 80 cents every day.

Still, you take what you can get.

I understand that the Rubio’s fish taco is based on “the real thing” from Mexico.

    Not quite, but close enough.

I’m guessing the difference is the Rubios franchise has to actually use clean cooking surfaces, change the oil every once in a while, and must face rigorous quality control issues.

See how annoying health regulations and big government only serves to keep the fish taco makers down?

Or are these rules designed to help consumers keep the fish taco down?

One of those eternal glass is half empty or half full questions.
