Back To (High) School Night

We attended back to school night for Lincoln High School last night.

It consisted of 10 minutes in each of the classes of your student.

The campus is spread out and you can get a fair amount of exercise getting back and forth from class.

We walked our girls schedule, met her teachers and heard a reoccurring theme:  No textbooks.

Every single class (with the exception of Choir and English which don’t require textbooks) talked about not having textbooks for the students.

The one class (Health) that did have a textbook only had a set for class use.

At least her Geometry textbook was online (which was impressive) and makes me wonder why they don’t just make all the textbooks available online?

I was impressed with the teachers and their passion for their subject (with one exception) and their commitment to the students.

Every single one of them (except one) communicated their availability to the students before school, after school and during lunch.

It’s still a little frightening to think we are old enough for a high school freshman.

No textbooks is nothing new. I don’t think I ever saw Josh with a textbook in high school or college!

i would love to see no textbooks for just one term, just one.. alas, who am i to complain.. being an english major i can check most of my required reading out at the library.

i hope the freshman year is a really good experience..sounds like it is off to a good start.

When I read between the lines, all I see is a Dad who cares deeply about every single aspect of his daughters life.

Some things never change, good for you.

Now for college, no text books would be way too wonderful. Think of saving 600 smackers per semester.
