Playlist

The band is cranking back up for another tour.

In addition to our praise oriented sets we’ve been kicking around the idea of doing some quality secular stuff.

Our drummer has an idea to do an entire set comprised of songs named after a woman.

Some choices in this genre would be Roxanne (The Police), Rosanna (Toto), and Cecilia (Simon & Garfunkel).

What are your entries for consideration?

Ava Maria would be a big hit with your Catholic neighbors! “Maria, Maria” ../ “Take a Letter, Maria”… “Angie” (Stones) … “Sweet Caroline” … “Annie’s Song” …

I hit the wrong button … I wasn’t finished! Barbara Ann …Billie Jean … Carrie Ann … Oh Donna … Eleanor Rigby … Ode to Billie Jo … Jolene … Layla …Lucy in the Sky … Michelle … Mustang Sally (one of my all time favorite soul songs) … Roxanne … Long Tall Sally … Susie Q … Maggie Mae … Proud Mary.

I think your drummer is on to something here! Do you need a banjo player?

Or songs about women in the bible:
Ruth, Esther, Mary, Martha, Rebecca, Rachel. If you can’t find songs, write them.

tough finding songs that aren’t drinking type songs–i’m somewhat embarrassed to admit.. ummmm a perfect circle (maynard of tool) has an album mer de noms (sea of names) but i’m not sure that is what you are looking for—though it has great drumming, and guitar..

    sing mary sing.. (jennifer knapp)

Would the Kinks’ Lola qualify? Guess it could go either way, ….like Lola.

As long as you’re breaking out the banjos - Aura Lee; My Gal Sal; Poor Ellen Smith; Darling Alalee; Jole Blon.

oh, and don’t forget Peggy Sue. Do that next Feb. 3 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the day the music died.

“Roxanne” would be a lot of fun because I would enjoy learning the regge style guitar part. I wouldn’t want to sing the lead, though.

I keep thinking of “Heavy Duty Judy” by Frank Zappa but I am not sure we would want to try to tackle such difficult music. We would need a few more band members too.
