First Impression

It seems that I spent too much time with Greg a week or so ago and some of the Greg DNA is still in my body.

Why is that you ask?

I accepted my first sub assignment today.

Got dressed (even put a tie on that I won’t ever wear again), grabbed my super-sub pack and headed out the door.

I was armed and ready for a day of professional babysitting.

I arrived at BC High School and informed the office person that I was there to sub for Mrs. W (English Class).

The office person looked at me, smiled and said “we don’t have a Mrs. W, I think you’re at the wrong school.”

I’m surprised she didn’t refer to me as Mr. England (though I might write that name on the board from now on).

And yes it was true (after we called the sub coordinator) I was supposed to be at T High School not BC HIgh School.

How’s that for a great first impression?

If that is the worst of what happens subbing, then you’re doing just fine. Did you make it over to T? How did the assignment go? No “kick me” signs or anything.

    oops!

sorry it had to happen, but the chuckle it gave me felt good.

Wow, what a great start. Tie, wrong school… Things will certainly improve. Fortunately, unlike Greg, there was no corpse in your car.

    We think of you often.

Greg, I mean Randy, that was funny. I’m surprised they didn’t try to hold on to you so you could sub for one of “their” teachers.

As a former sub, and a person who has met MANY subs over the years, I can honestly say this: I don’t think I’ve ever met a sub (or been one) that hasn’t gone to the wrong school at least once.

And, yes, I am confessing that I did it too.

I still think I have you on this one … Jan and I went to the wrong hospital to pick up a body. We were in the ER with our gurney when we were told, “I think you’re supposed to be at _____ hospital. We don’t have that person here.” That’s rather humbling to walk out with an empty gurney.
