We had a review of our retirement portfolio with our broker yesterday.

Doesn’t look like I will be able to retire at age 45.

23% of our portfolio is in Apple stock so get out there and buy more Apple products.

Working through the life of Abraham with our small groups and in our message times.

I continue to marvel how the grown up versions of these stories (great men and women of faith) are far different (appropriately so) from the children’s version some of us heard growing up.

And then it dawned on me that few have transitioned from one version to another.

Back on campus at ACU after enough years that I can’t remember when I was here last.

    Yes, things have changed.

Wow! I would so go to school here.

We’ve had Sunday’s that rocked (as much as a gasping mainline Church of Christ can rock) and we’ve had Sunday’s that bombed (as much as a gasping mainline Church of Christ can bomb).

Last Sunday was not a highlight for us a community of worshipers gathering together to celebrate the God creates, the Savior who redeems and the Spirit who leads.

    What made the difference?

Was it the singing?  Was it the preaching?  Was it the expectation of the people?  Was it just my perception?

It really seemed like God decided to attend church somewhere else and if he decides to make that a habit it is quite the frightening scenario.

Reminds me of a friend’s wedding.  He finished making his vows to his new wife to be (named Wendy) and proudly proclaimed “I Thee Wendy Red!

Sure at first glance of the title you might think I was writing about something Greg did.

    No, not this time.

Approximately 80 miles away from the ocean and doing who knows what in the Stockton deep water channel yesterday, we watched with fascination as a humongogigantor seal destroyed a striped bass.

We’ve seen seals eat anchovies, herrings and other such small bait fish but never had I seen a seal eating a big fish.

With fish in mouth the seal would surface and thrash about flinging the fish in the process of taking a bite.

I presume the seal swallowed as he swam over to where the fish landed and repeated the same process again.

It’s not unheard of for ocean dwelling creatures to frequent these waters (you may recall stories of the lost whales).

But when a seal invades our fishing grounds I take it personal.
